United Way of Greater Chattanooga Adds Critical Housing Resource To 211 Services To Support Unhoused Neighbors

by | Feb 17, 2023

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2023) – United Way of Greater Chattanooga is expanding 211, a free and confidential helpline, to support unhoused individuals and families find permanent housing. Community members in need of housing can now place one call to 211 to start the Coordinated Entry Program. This program is a partnership between The Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition and supporting agencies to ensure community members receive comprehensive support.

“211 has always served as a hub for connecting people with the right resources,” said Jessica Pilcher, Director of Strategic Partnerships. “Our team coordinates food, utilities, employment, education, health services, and more. This expansion will now streamline the process for our unhoused neighbors, making it easier to access the critical services our community partners offer.”

This expansion of services happens to coincide with 211 Day, which is celebrated each year on February 11th, and is a recognition of the community building that happens through the service. The United Way of Greater Chattanooga 211 team responded to more than 57,000 needs last year. This housing extension can potentially serve 20,000 neighbors who were previously receiving services through the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition.

“This is a critical need we are continuing to solve in our community,” said Mike Smith, Executive Director of The Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition. “Providing simple and easy access to the resources our unhoused neighbors need is not easy. Starting with 211 is a great first step.”

211 serves 15 counties across Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. Community members can reach out for help via phone, text, or email. To learn more about 211, visit unitedwaycha.org/211.
