Shaw – Volunteerism In Action

by | Aug 18, 2022

“Shaw’s vision is to create a better future, and volunteering is a big part of how that vision comes to life in our communities. Volunteering is ingrained in our Shaw culture, and I’m so proud of our associates who take the time to serve their local community.” – Deanna Mathis, Director of Community Outreach & Corporate Giving at Shaw Industries

At Shaw, we are passionately committed to creating a better future for our community, our associates and our customers. We proudly partner with our associates to volunteer and donate to local nonprofit organizations that share our commitment to creating a better future in the communities where our associates live and work. During 2021, Shaw and its associates contributed more than $6.5 million to philanthropic organizations.

Shaw has a long-standing and extensive partnership with the United Way. As one of the largest employers in the northwest Georgia area, we support the United Way’s vision of “a community where all people achieve their full human potential through education, stability, and health & well-being.

Each year, our United Way campaign committee invites associates to join in volunteering at United Way partner agencies during our annual “Spring into Service” campaign, which lasts from April through June. This helps our associates gain a greater understanding of the impact United Way has on its communities. This year, our associates volunteered more than 2,000 hours with 40 different United Way partner agencies across Greater Chattanooga, Northwest Georgia and beyond. Check out some pictures of their efforts below:

In July, we paused our volunteer activities to get ready for our annual United Way pledge campaign, which takes place during the month of August. We have more than 100 employees who volunteer to serve as United Way Campaign team leaders at the facilities where they work. These dedicated volunteers coordinate presentations, answer questions, share their own stories of why they believe in the work and mission of United Way, and ask their coworkers to donate. We could not have a successful campaign without them.

Although Shaw has been conducting United Way campaigns in many of the communities where we operate for decades, we are excited that this year, we are conducting all of our campaigns across the company at the same time. We’ve also been able to expand the giving options for our associates this year, so they now have more than 40 different local United Ways across the country to choose from when making donations by payroll deduction. We think this will have a big impact on participation since we have associates who reside in many different communities throughout the United States.

Shaw kicked off its 2022 pledge campaign on August 2, and we’re excited to see the collective impact we will be able to make in thanks to the generosity of our associates. Stay tuned as we work towards our goal of raising $2 million for United Way agencies across the country!
