An Open Door for Youth in Foster Care

About The Role:
The Haven, a non-profit in Chattanooga, Tennessee, provides a temporary home for children in foster care. We specifically serve teenagers, children with higher-level behavioral needs, and large sibling groups, offering a safe space while the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) finds them permanent placements. We plan to begin construction in Spring 2025 and are looking for a director to oversee operations at The Haven.

Ideal Candidate:
Our ideal candidate will be someone who is a self-motivated leader, can compassionately care for children and teens, and is able to set boundaries with other professionals to keep children safe and feels comfortable working in a fast paced, yet meaningful environment.

– Faith-driven: A committed Christian with a heart for serving children in crisis. Must be committed to the mission, vision, and statement of faith for The Haven
– Experience in foster care: Knowledgeable about trauma and its effects on children and families.
– Financial awareness: Fundraising and nonprofit budgeting experience. Ability to connect with a wide donor base and build new key stakeholder relationships in our community.
– Adaptable: Comfortable with managing many tasks simultaneously and able to work individually to meet a variety of needs.
– Organized and proactive: Able to manage multiple responsibilities, communicate effectively, and troubleshoot as needed.

Additional skills include:
– Public speaking to both large and small groups
– As this role works closely with children, teens, and DCS workers, the candidate must be able to enforce rules (e.g., bedtimes, chores) with kindness and consistency.
– A flexible schedule, with the ability to be on-call as needed. You would be able to flex your time as you work hours outside of 9am-5pm.
– Reliable transportation and proof of insurance to meet with donors, volunteers, and perform other tasks as needed.
– Marketing and Social Media

Qualifications:
Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. Masters Degree Preferred.
1-2 years of experience in Non-Profit Management preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Director of The Haven will oversee the day-to-day operations, including, but not limited to:

Leadership
Welcoming children and reviewing house rules with DCS workers and the children
Providing monthly reports to DCS and Ridgedale Baptist Church
Creating and implementing safety and security procedures
Developing and leading trauma-informed training for staff and volunteers

Fundraising
Leading fundraising efforts, including annual fundraising events
Building and managing budgets
Managing supply inventories

Volunteer Coordination
Coordinating volunteers to engage with youth at The Haven as appropriate
Planning for meal trains, cleaning crews, and organizational teams to serve at The Haven

Community collaboration
Leveraging community resources to better The Haven
Connecting with others at events
Collaborating with other transitional homes in our area and state

Compensation & Work Hours:
Position Type: Salaried, exempt position
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: $45,000-$55,000 yearly based on experience
Insurance: Stipend provided for insurance needs
