Lee University’s Center for Responsible Citizenship (CRC) invites applications for a part-time Mock Trial & Civic Engagement Coordinator to begin in Spring 2026. This position will lead and develop Lee’s Mock Trial team, mentoring students to view argumentation as a disciplined practice ordered toward truth-seeking, respect, and civic responsibility. In addition to coaching and overseeing the Mock Trial program, the Coordinator will cultivate relationships with regional high school and homeschool speech and debate communities, building sustained partnerships that strengthen pathways into Lee University. Working closely with the Civics Institute Coordinator, this role will promote Lee’s civil discourse initiatives within these networks and connect prospective students to the Mock Trial program, Political Science major, Honors Program, and the Center for Responsible Citizenship. This role will report to the Civics Institute Coordinator, under the oversight of the Director of the Center for Responsible Citizenship.
Mock Trial & Coaching Responsibilities
Lead and develop all aspects of Lee University’s Mock Trial program and AMTA competitive season, including case theory development, witness preparation, courtroom procedure, and team strategy
Plan and develop a year-long competitive schedule, including:
2–3 competitions per semester
at least one weekly weekday evening practice
Work with team leaders to create opportunities for student leadership
Oversee logistics, travel arrangements, and student conduct at regional and national tournaments (travel required)
Maintain weekly office hours to support student development
Develop and maintain internal records tracking student engagement and outreach
Outreach, Mission, and Civic Engagement Responsibilities
Serve as the primary liaison to regional high school and homeschool speech and debate and mock trial communities
Build sustained partnerships through:
Presence at regional competitions
Collaboration with homeschool cooperatives, classical schools, private schools, and public schools
Coordination with Lee University Admissions
Promote Lee University’s civil discourse initiatives within these networks and strengthen pathways into the Mock Trial program, Political Science major, Honors Program, and the Center for Responsible Citizenship
Align coaching methods, team conduct, and outreach messaging with Lee University’s commitment to Christian liberal arts education and the CRC’s commitment to charitable dialogue
Facilitate collaboration between the Lee University Mock Trial team and the CRC’s civil discourse programming
Ensure compliance with all applicable U.S. Department of Education grant requirements and university policies
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Ability to manage complex schedules, mentor and develop students, coordinate events, and collaborate effectively with university departments and external partners.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong networking and time-management skills.
Courteous, personable, level-headed, patient, and detail-oriented.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
Demonstrated understanding of, or strong affinity for, the liberal arts tradition and the practice of charitable discourse.
Commitment to and alignment with the mission and values of Lee University and the Center for Responsible Citizenship
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas: collegiate Mock Trial (AMTA experience preferred), legal practice, or competitive speech and debate.
Experience with educational contexts such as homeschool, classical, charter, and public schools.
1–2 years of experience working with college students.
Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or K–12 levels.
M.A. or higher in a relevant academic discipline.
Appointment Terms
This is a part-time, hourly position funded by a four-year U.S. Department of Education grant. Continued employment during that period is contingent on satisfactory job performance, ongoing grant funding, and adherence to applicable grant compliance requirements. The position requires between 20–25 hours per week. The pay range is set at $25–35 per hour, based on prior experience and skills. Employment will conclude at the expiration of the grant period.
