Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer will oversee day-to-day activities, building a culture of trust for staff, volunteers, and partners by providing the key leadership necessary to establish a healthy, happy, effective, and inclusive work environment. The COO will ensure operating excellence in such areas as Family Services, Construction, Facilities, Office, ReStore, and other departments as assigned. The COO will be an effective manager and creative problem solver committed to and enthusiastic about realizing the mission of HFHGC while also building a stronger and more vibrant community.
This onsite position is full-time, exempt requiring occasional evening and weekend hours for meetings, operations, and events. Work hours will typically fall within general business hours.
I. Construction
· In partnership with the Director of Construction, deliver quality housing products in a timely manner while maximizing the engagement of volunteers in the construction process.
· Ensure that homes are built/repaired within code and permitting requirements.
· Ensure compliance with construction schedules and budgets.
· Work with the CEO and Director of Construction to pursue land opportunities, fulfilling land banking and development requirements as directed.
· Ensure proper maintenance and safe upkeep of all properties owned by HFHGC to include office(s), warehouse(s), ReStore(s), parking lot(s), build-sites, and any other facilities.
· Ensure proper maintenance and safe upkeep of all equipment owned by HFHGC to include tools, vehicles, and other equipment necessary for mission advancement.
II. Family Services/Office
· In partnership with the Family Services team, deliver quality future homeowner selection, orientation, management, and conclusion processes for partner and prospective families.
· Ensure that the process is accessible, equitable, pleasant, and transparent.
· Ensure that mortgage origination and servicing occur within regulatory guidelines.
· Work with the office team to ensure that general operations are efficient and achieve desired program outcomes in a welcoming, customer-service-oriented environment.
· Ensure the maintenance of all procedural and employment-related guidelines to include authoring when needed, organizing, and enforcing policies/procedures as required.
· Oversee hiring and firing processes, onboarding, training, licensure, and other issues of compliance or team development. Establish/implement professional development plans.
III. ReStore
· Work with ReStore management to develop an annual business plan; achieve annual sales and profitability targets by encouraging efficiency of operations and developing programs to support aggressive revenue goals.
· In partnership with store staff, create a service-oriented environment making the ReStore a safe, clean, and enjoyable space for employees, volunteers, donors, and customers.
IV. Other

· The COO assists CEO, CFO, Development Department, and others in budgeting compliance, public speaking/presenting engagements, fund-raising and friend-raising efforts, as well as community engagement and representation at events, in meetings, and via media.
· The COO has frequent contact with other HFHGC staff, volunteers, media, clients, stakeholders, vendors, external private/public entities, and government agencies for the exchange of information and to solve problems and discover opportunities.
· The COO is responsible for ensuring all operations comply with legal and ethical expectations and Habitat for Humanity International guidelines while ensuring safety for all.
· The COO reports to the CEO and serves on the organization’s Leadership Team. Responsibilities involve various interrelated tasks; procedures vary as a result.
· Work is typically performed in an office environment but does involve work at construction sites on occasion (sometimes requiring PPE), and various other locations for events.
· Effective communication (writing, interpersonal, public speaking) and analytical/quantitative skills will be essential along with the ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
Required Qualifications
· Ability to work effectively and respectfully with people of diverse beliefs and backgrounds while inspiring a shared vision toward mission fulfillment
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced education and/or experience preferred
· Minimum 5 years of related experience. Habitat for Humanity experience helpful
· Effective communication (oral/written) and listening skills with ability to develop staff and volunteers through personal example as well as implementation of formal processes
· Strategic vision with ability to manage tactically
· Self-starter with ability to work both independently and with staff, volunteers, and donors
· Understanding of technology with the ability to leverage it to improve operations and communication; process mapping and change management experience highly desired
· Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and to navigate uneven terrain at work sites and HFHGC facilities
· Valid state-issued driver’s license with the ability to operate company vehicles
