Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for green|spaces staff, affiliated contractors, AmeriCorps Members, programs, expansion, and execution of green|spaces mission. S/he will develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.
Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:
• Oversee daily operations and direction of staff
• Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve green|spaces strategic goals
• Actively engage and energize green|spaces staff, affiliated contractors, AmeriCorps Members, volunteers, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders
• Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors: seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for operations and funding
• Maintain an active presence within local organizations such as (but not limited to) Chamber, Rotary and other civic groups, and/or other nonprofit partners

Fundraising & Communications:
• Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion
• Deepen and refine communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating stronger brand awareness
• Cultivate a presence in the community and build relationships to garner new opportunities in alignment with green|spaces mission

Planning & Business:
• Build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders
• Be a local presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication
• Lead transition to and/or construction of new green|spaces office space / Living Building Challenge
• Oversees financial, compliance, tax, risk management, and facilities management
• Recommends yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manages green|spaces resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
• In partnership with the Board and staff, develop and implement annual, 3 year, and 5 year strategic plans, including programmatic, fundraising and operational objectives

Qualifications
The ED will be thoroughly committed to green|spaces mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, teaching, and relationship management experience. Candidates should be highly organized, possess exceptional interpersonal skills, and have extensive experience managing budgets. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
• Advanced degree ideal, with at least 5 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including proficiency with public presentations and slide deck creation competency
• Background in sustainability or equivalent environmental knowledge
• Experience in working with nonprofits
• Knowledge of or experience in building and construction, green building/energy efficiency understanding preferred
