Our team is passionate about making a positive impact in our community, and we are looking for a compassionate and organized Grants Manager to join us in furthering our mission.
The Grants Manager will oversee the full lifecycle of three key grants (private foundation, state, and federal), ensuring successful execution, compliance, reporting, and alignment with the organization’s mission and goals. This role is critical to supporting First Things First as we continue to deliver meaningful programs and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Management
Manage the implementation, tracking, and reporting of private foundation, state, and federal grants.
Maintain project timelines, ensuring deliverables, milestones, and reporting deadlines are met.
Utilize (and create where necessary) systems and tools to monitor grant budgets, expenses, and progress.
Work closely with the VP of Community Impact to ensure grant-funded initiatives align with grant requirements.
Maintain strong relationships with funders by providing clear communication, accurate reports, and timely updates.
Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private foundation grant guidelines, including financial and programmatic reporting.
Prepare and submit grant reports (narrative and financial), coordinating input from Operations, Programs, and other departments.
Stay current on changes to grant requirements, regulations, and funder expectations.
Serve as the organization’s point person for grant audits and monitoring visits related to grants.
Budget and Financial Oversight
Collaborate with the VP of Operations to track grant budgets, allowable costs, and expenditures.
Prepare budget forecasts and adjustments for each grant.
Monitor spending to ensure alignment with grant goals and timelines.
Collaboration and Leadership
Assist the Leadership Team in coordinating cross-departmental efforts required for grant execution.
Providing a monthly report of grant activities to the leadership team.
Act as a resource for staff regarding grant objectives, timelines, and compliance expectations.
Support fundraising and development teams with grant renewal applications or new grant opportunities as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience managing private, state, and federal grants in a non-profit or similar environment.
Strong knowledge of grant compliance, especially federal regulations (e.g., 2 CFR 200).
Proficiency in budgeting and financial tracking for grants.
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, grant management software, or financial tracking tools.
Preferred:
Experience with non-profits working with low-income families.
Prior experience in a hybrid or flexible work environment.
