Senior Director of Development
Reports to: President & CEO
Full time, Salaried Exempt
The Chattanooga Area Food Bank (CAFB) is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented individual to join our dedicated team, build relationships, and create and execute a comprehensive development strategy. Serving twenty counties with locations in two locations in Chattanooga and one in Dalton, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank’s mission is to lead a network of partners and unite the community to eliminate hunger by feeding, nourishing, and empowering those we serve.
Job Description:
The Senior Director of Development, in partnership with the President & CEO, will provide leadership and strategic vision to the organization in all areas associated with development and community engagement. This role develops and executes annual and long-range strategies to ensure continued growth in giving and engagement year over year. The position will work to strengthen the Food Bank’s direct mail programs, community outreach, volunteer engagement, strategic partnerships, and special events. As part of the Executive Leadership team, this position works with the CEO and Board of Directors to ensure the organization has the financial resources needed to further its mission.
The Senior Director of Development oversees a team of seven responsible for fund development, donor data, community outreach, volunteerism, guest experience, and special events.
Fundraising & Donor Services
• Cultivate, manage, and steward relationships with donors, including individual donors, organizations, foundations, and corporations
• Directly oversee the contractual relationship with the direct mail provider to ensure the effectiveness of the direct mail strategies, while ensuring all communications are timely, messaging is consistent, and annual direct mail fundraising goals are met
• Develop and expand giving programs that include identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors to support monthly, major, planned, and endowment giving strategies
• Oversee all systems and technology related to the development department, including Raiser’s Edge, Fundraise Up, VolHub, Double the Donation, Classy, GiveButter, etc.
• Oversee the donor services team, the data integrity, all gift entry processes, and reporting and management of the CRM system
• Analyze donor data to produce donor-related reports, invitation lists, mailing lists, etc.
Community Engagement (Outreach, Volunteers & Events)
• Provide leadership and drive growth in the expansion of all community engagement strategies to support the food bank’s short-term priorities and long-term volunteer engagement and special event goals
• Direct all aspects of food drives, fund drives, fundraising events, and donor appreciation events
• Cultivate a holistic approach to relationship management that integrates volunteer engagement and donor stewardship to foster a sense of community and collective purpose
• Facilitate opportunities for volunteers to transition to donors and vice versa, ensuring a continuous and integrated approach to engagement
Leadership
• Collaborative servant leader who can hire, supervise, and develop high-performing team members to advance the mission, while fostering a positive organizational culture
• Drive strategy and produce results from both an operational and financial perspective by working closely with the board committees, executive team, and the respective departments
• Create effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of all fundraising and engagement activities
• Work with leadership team members on budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
• Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure alignment on cross-departmental functions like events, tours, and volunteer engagement
• Provide leadership to the Development Committee and any related ad-hoc committees to drive strategy and results
• Build strong relationships within the organization and with external stakeholders; values both relationships and results
• Demonstrate a strong business acumen that is complemented by integrity, courage, and professionalism
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree and 7-10 years of relevant leadership experience preferred
• At least 5 to 7 years of executive-level experience; strong ability to interface with all members of leadership and the Board of Directors as needed
• Demonstrated success within fundraising, major gift strategies and events
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
• Strong financial acumen in the areas of departmental budgeting, fund-development budgets, analysis, and reporting
