Position:                    Statewide Coordinator for Consumer Housing Specialists

Reports To:                 Housing Director

Job Classification:     Full-Time, Exempt

Position Purpose:

As the Statewide Coordinator for Consumer Housing Specialists at AIM Center, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing the Creating Homes Initiative (CHI) for Region III. Your primary responsibility will be to meet the goals of CHI by engaging key stakeholders, providing mentorship and technical support, and fostering collaboration to increase access to housing and support services for individuals experiencing mental illness, co-occurring disorders, or substance use recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain the Recovery Within Reach website with housing options and support information.
  • Request an updated TDMHSAS Licensed Inquiry Report of licensed facilities from the State’s Office of Housing and Homeless Services (OHHS) monthly and disseminate data to other CHS.
  • Annually, request data from the website be downloaded onto an Excel spreadsheet, organize and send other CHS data relevant to their region(s).
  • Assist service recipients to access housing opportunities through such activities as helping them assess and update their current housing plan and options, working with community agencies to eliminate systemic barriers and create improved pathways to appropriate housing, helping individual consumers and their families access income such as housing subsidies and move through barriers that inhibit access to this housing, and working with housing providers to improve consumer access. CHS shall engage in at least one of these activities per month.
  • Implement the SOAR Initiative to assist consumers in accessing appropriate Social Security benefits.
  • Complete SOAR Leadership Training
  • Conduct two (2) Cohort SOAR trainings and make educational presentations to stakeholders.
  • Supervise SOAR Benefits Specialist
  • Provide quarterly reports regarding the AIM Center Housing Program
  • Participate in the Social program and holiday rotation calendar coverage.
  • Assist consumers to access appropriate Social Security benefits.
  • Attend CHI-related meetings and community events to advance program goals.
  • Provide monthly reports and gather/distribute resources to combat housing stigma.
  • CHS shall attend and participate in CHI-related meetings, regional Mental Health Planning Policy Council meetings, and other mental health-related community meetings.
  • Assist the Regional Housing Facilitator in meeting the goal of the CHI to develop housing for service recipients. Under the leadership of the Regional Housing Facilitator, the CHS shall participate in activities aimed at achieving this goal such as identifying and developing relationships with community partners, participating in collaboration-building activities such as community planning and implementation efforts, writing or assisting in writing grants for housing and support funding, researching potential housing sites, monitoring housing project progress, and other goal-directed activities agreed upon with the Regional Housing Facilitator. CHS shall engage in at least twelve of these activities per year.
  • Makes an educational presentation on topics pre-approved by the Office of Housing and Homeless Services (OHHS) at least four (4) times per year to an audience of mental health consumers, consumer families, drop-in center staff, homeless shelter staff, social service mental health providers and case managers, supportive living facility operators, or other interested community stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned

Statewide Coordinator Activities:

  • Provide mentorship, training, and technical support to Consumer Housing Specialists statewide.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with housing and homeless services partners.
  • Serve as an experiential mentor and provide virtual support and guidance to CHS personnel.
  • Update presentations and training outlines as needed and facilitate Zoom trainings.
  • Collaborate with other members of the CHI Team to support statewide goals and objectives


  • Provide targeted training opportunities to CHI Consumer Housing Specialists in Regions 1-7, as needed, on proven techniques and approaches for community engagement for effective housing resource information delivery, guidance, and support; and reducing the stigma of mental illness, substance disorders, and homelessness.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to statewide Consumer Housing Specialists (and local-level SOAR specialists as needed and when available) and for SOAR practices and implementation.
  • Process Updates and Oversight: Provide insight and suggestions to the TDMHSAS OHHS for updating and optimizing the Consumer Housing Specialist program and its service delivery as needed to enhance program effectiveness.


  • Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral science, business administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in human services leadership or as a Consumer Housing Specialist.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or in training to become one.
  • Completion of SSI/SSDI, Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) training.
  • Experience and proficiency in the use of the internet, social media, virtual meeting platforms, and computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, email, etc.)
  • Occasional Travel
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, punctual
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license. Ability to obtain an F-Endorsement within 14 days (Tennessee Residents only), reliable transportation, automobile liability insurance, 3-year clean MVR, NO DUI/DWI
