Tournament History
The tournament first began as the United Way Classic in 1988 and is now named to honor the memory of the late Chattanooga Times Free Press editor, Frank McDonald, who passed away in 2001. Frank McDonald was a tireless supporter of United Way of Greater Chattanooga, serving as campaign chair, board chair and as chair of the endowment committee. As one of the founders of the United Way Golf Classic, naming it in his honor is a fitting tribute to such a devoted friend of United Way of Greater Chattanooga. The Honors Course’s relationship with United Way of Greater Chattanooga is very special, as it is the only charity event they host.
